The benefits of using artwork in the workplace are considerable: offices are decorated anyway. Art pleases and motivates the workforce; enables a company to project a positive image and act as a promoter, sponsoring artists; and last but not least, accurate buying can provide a possible investment.

1. Artwork in the workplace enhances the company image

Firstly, an arts program provides clues about your company — its taste, financial status, relationship to the community, and appreciation of the relationships between business, design, and the fine arts.

The company’s identity is defined by the art hanging on the walls.

Artworks displayed in a reception area, waiting rooms, or meeting rooms create a comfortable feeling and put visitors and clients at ease. It confirms the success of the company and suggests a forward-thinking and vibrant company culture.

2. Art generates a refreshing and inspiring environment for everyone.

Secondly, studies show that artwork in the workplace decreases stress, enhances creativity and productivity, enhances dedication, broadens employee gratitude for diversity, and encourages discussions.

Employees are often a company’s most significant budget expense — so it pays to keep them fulfilled and stimulated.

Art tames the work environment and gives the business a context in their employees’ lives and activities.

It is part of a more significant trend of creating a stimulating and more pleasant working environment. Every year reports are listing the best places to work and the best companies. High ranking companies invariably have art collections.

It demonstrates a company’s honesty to consumers and visitors and reveals how the company views the importance of their workforce. The art displayed supports and confirms the corporate image and identity.

3. For marketing and selling, art can brand a company’s products

Thirdly, art and commerce have a symbiotic relationship. For around a hundred years, art has been a valuable tool for developing and promoting their products.

Relating a company’s art to its business activity can create tremendous advantages in attracting new business and maintaining existing clients. In the past 20 years, many enterprises have acquired artworks to match their culture, brand and outlook.

4. Art acts as a social connection in the workplace and ahead.

Fourthly, Art is a global conversation that builds connections between people and ideas. Modern art, in particular, goes beyond the pictorial and genuinely tests the mind.

Art in a work environment helps to enhance customer and society relations by advancing networking opportunities.

5. Artwork in the workplace helps to promote community relations

Lastly, organisations are often troubled with being good corporate citizens. They view their art acquisitions as a way to support the local fine arts population. Putting money into the neighbourhood while improving that community and building goodwill is in the company’s best benefit.

Unlike museums that may only present a small part of their acquisitions, companies tend to show many of the art in their collections, so more people in a corporate group often see an artist’s work than museum specimens.

Many companies use their art programmes to link with the local community, joining local art associations and supporting local artists, particularly when moving into a new location. Additionally, some corporate art programs have expanded beyond their regional communities by creating a collection that can contribute to the national heritage.

In summary, even though investing time and money into art can seem to be outside the range of standard business activities, there are numerous benefits to a company.

If you have different art pieces to hang in your home, just placing one piece up might not pass.

The concept of the salon wall originated in Paris in the 19th century, when aspiring artists presented their work at the Paris Salon. At its peak, the Salon drew upwards of 23,000 viewers a day.

Today, the salon wall concept—many pictures hung at various heights and formations—allows you to display many pieces on the same wall. It also gives observers a visual treat, helping them to draw connections between artworks of different styles and sizes.

Read on for six tips to plan your very own salon wall.

Salon-style walls can run floor to the roof or in a band across a broad wall.

1. Consider your stream.

Salon wall configurations can be checkerboard and logical or more random. It’s all about the examples of art you own and the look you are trying to accomplish. If you choose a proportional organisation, you’ll need to be very precise in your hanging process; your eyes will be drawn to any break in the balance.

2. Consider the space.

The overall state of your salon wall could depend on what encompasses it. For instance, a cascading composition can look great above a staircase, and 3-D pieces might also play well with the right group of images. If you are developing your wall around a piece of furniture, a sculpture, or an architectural fixture, first make sure you have enough art to follow through with the plan.

3. Think about a theme.

Maybe you group artworks that share a complementary colour scheme. Maybe one part breaks the trend and stands out as the “black sheep” in the selection. Group your art by subject, medium, and even frame style.

4. Planning to map out your salon wall decoration.

Use butcher paper on the floor and experiment with different formations of how you might hang the pieces, tracing the chosen design onto the paper and then converting it onto your wall.

5. Some rules still (might) apply.

If stacking pieces on your wall, remember, 6-12 centimetres is a great general rule for how much space should be in between art pieces.

6. Have fun with your wall.

A salon wall should be like a mini-museum inside your house. Incorporating mixed-media objects onto the wall—or even personal artefacts—can inspire and invite closer examination. Consider visiting a gallery for influence and ideas for creating vibrant displays of artwork.

Happy hanging!

We all agree that sitting in a white-walled cubicle with no decoration to speak of would be pretty uninspiring, right? CEOs and business owners realise that art in the workplace can add tremendous value to employees’ overall happiness and productivity. At Port Douglas Picture Framing, creating inspiring workplaces is what we do best. We’ve found a few reasons why adding artwork to the workplace is massively beneficial.

Increase Employee Productivity.

Colour in the workplace can increase employee productivity and creativity. This colour doesn’t have to come from the paint on a wall, though. The more creative you can incorporate colours into an office environment, the better. For example, use the energy of artwork by adding green in the lobby or a series of bright photos in a conference room. By giving employees something pleasing and stimulating to look at, you increase their overall productivity and creativity. Art also helps people be at ease in conference or interview rooms. When an increasing number of people work remotely, it’s essential to give employees a reason to enjoy being at the office.

Make a statement.

First impressions are critical, especially for businesses. Suppose you bring a prospective client or employee into an office with minimal decoration. In that case, they will think one or two things: One, if they can’t afford to buy decorations for their own office, they must not be doing an excellent job. Two, they mustn’t care about how their business looks or makes their employees feel. Repair this by spending a little time and money to decorate with art in the workplace.

Reinforce Company Values.

A popular choice for art today is incorporating organisations values or mission statements into various pieces—whether it is murals painted on walls or framed photographs conveying leading company ideals. This is an excellent option for many reasons, but because it uses art to reinforce company values and create a more inviting and inspiring environment for employees to thrive in.

Although many factors make a workspace inspiring, using the power of art may be one of the simplest yet most effective. If you’re looking to make bold statements and rejuvenate your workplace, we’d be happy to help!

CLIMATE

You shouldn’t expose canvas artwork to excessive heat or dampness. Your storage area should be well-ventilated, without draughts and heat sources like fires and radiators. Humidity can cause mould to grow, so make sure that your space allows for circulating air. It’ll prevent humidity from building up. Humidity leads to many problems, including staining the paper, ink blurring, and adhesives weakening. Acrylics are usually fine in humid conditions with ventilation.

HEAT SOURCES

You should not keep artwork near heat sources such as fires and radiators. Heat can cause inks to become soft on canvases, the glue starts to peel on acrylics, and lead to blistering and burns on the artwork.

LIGHTING

Ensure your acrylics or canvases aren’t exposed to direct sunlight or overhead lighting. Intense lightning fades artwork. Having a non-specialised light shining onto your artwork can become a source of heat. Contact a lighting specialist that provides information on the LED specific lights that honour your artwork without creating damage.

DARK SPACES

If your environment is too dark, this can also present problems. Putting your artwork in an attic or basement will likely be damp or dry conditions causing damage. Insects like silverfish and termites thrive in damp and dark environments by ingesting paper.

WALLS AND FLOORS

It’s best not to hang canvases on external or concrete walls; they absorb moisture. Likewise, leaning a painting on the floor causes damage. As well as being more liable to be accidentally kicked, artwork can absorb moisture from a concrete floor.

CLEAR SPACE

You shouldn’t store any toxic substances, solvents or paint products near your artwork. It is crucial to keep your area around artwork accessible and uncluttered to prevent dust and dirt damage.

PROXIMITY

Don’t lean anything against the surface. Objects near artwork may not seem sharp enough to pierce the canvas or scratch your acrylic, but it is always surprising what damage occurs. Prevent accidents and store your artwork away from anything that might press against the surface.

Don’t lean artworks against each other when storing them. Separate them with sheets of cardboard or backing board to avoid damage.

Bathroom Art

Every room in your house should be beautifully decorated, including the bathroom. Create a focal point by hanging photography over the bathtub, towel racks or toilet area. Here are a few tips to get decorating:

• Want your bathtub to be the centre of attention? Hang a large photo above it.
• Choose a relaxing print that will help you unwind when soaking.
• Ensure to leave enough wall space between your artwork and tub to avoid any damage from splashing water.
• Display one large piece or a blend of pictures that are at least 2/3 or equivalent to the towel bar’s width.
• Centre your artwork with the towel bar.
• Placement is important. Please don’t hang your art too close to the bar. It might get damaged every time you reach for a towel, but don’t hang it so high that it’s floating on the wall.

Perrin Clarke Photography has dozens of landscape photography that would fit beautifully into any bathroom.

Perrin’s landscapes are breathtaking, including beach scenery, rainforest rivers, piers and salt baths. All perfect for bathroom and kitchen art.
